Summary: The tholeiitic basalts are altered by low-T processes and form two groups on the basis of TiO2 and other elements. The most differentiated basalts represent as little as 48% residual liquid. The RE patterns are similar to those of the Emperor seamounts, Hawaiian ridge, and Hawaiian Islands; apparently all these basalts were generated in the lower mantle.
