Summary: Pelagic and hydrothermal sediment samples (30) were analysed for major and minor oxides. An additional 11 lithified carbonate sediments were studied petrologically. The pelagic foraminiferal biomicrite tends to be higher in Fe and Zn, similar in Co content, and lower in Cu. Mineralogically the samples are mainly calcite with minor quartz and clays. Two classes can be recognized: Fe-rich smectites, and Mn-rich oxides and oxyhydroxides.
