Summary: The basalt flows are approx 70 m.y. in age on the Walvis Ridge off the SW coast of Africa. The submarine basalt flows and pillows are intercalated with minor sediments. The flows vary from aphyric quartz tholeiites on the Ridge to highly plagioclase-phyric olivine tholeiites on the flank. Systematic differences occur in trace elements and isotopic compositions, suggesting derivation from an old Nd/Sm- and Rb/Sr-enriched mantle source. The data are tabulated and plotted in figures.
