Summary: XRD was used to analyse 153 Recent-Late Cretaceous samples from sites 541, 542 and 543. The main constituents are quartz, feldspar, clinoptilolite, opal-CT, calcite, kaolinite, illite, smectite and palygorskite. Minor components (< 10%) include amphibole, dolomite, rhodochrosite, chlorite and mixed-layer clays.
