Summary: Leg 89 samples are mostly olivine-plagioclase-clinopyroxene sparsely phyric basalts with lower TiO2 at given Mg/(Mg+Fe2+) than MORB. Three major geochemical groups were produced by different degrees of partial melting, fractional crystallization, and possibly magma mixing at shallow depths. Electron microprobe analyses are given for 19 pyroxenes.
