Summary: The changes in major-ion composition are similar to changes noted previously for other holes. Chemical and mineralogical studies suggest considerable alterations downhole. The oxygen-isotope composition does not change significantly downhole. Apparently, both the bentonites and the basalts contribute to the REE distributions. Likewise the basalts seem to contribute non-radiogenic Sr.
