Lead isotope evidence for the structure of the Rockall dipping-reflector passive margin

Summary: Pb isotope data on basalts which form the dipping (seismic) reflector at this margin, indicate that they may have been contaminated by ancient continental crust or, alternatively, derived from a sub-continental lithospheric mantle source. The basalts of this area erupted through and onto continental basement and not by subaerial sea-floor spreading. Gravity models predict stretched continental crust beneath the dipping reflector sequence.
