Summary: The geometries and structure of volcanic rifted continental margins, that is, those with an ocean-continent transition masked by thick sequences of inclined tholeiitic basaltic flows, are examined. Small- and large-scale differences in sequence seismo- stratigraphy along strike, down-dip, and between conjugate configurations are discussed. Detailed appraisals of deep drilling results and seismic data for the Voring plateau and western Rockall plateau are used to contrast margin architecture and demonstrate difficulties in interpolating data between sites of dipping reflector formation.
