Oceanic evidence for coherent fluctuations in Fennoscandian and Laurentide ice sheets on millennium timescales

Summary: Analyses are presented of 14C dates, Δ18O, grain size, magnetic susceptibility, ice-rafted detritus and other data for sediment cores from the Norwegian Sea. The results show cooling events and iceberg discharges analogous to Heinbrich events. These climate fluctuations were in phase with air-T over Greenland suggesting that the rapid changes in heat fluxes in the N Atlantic were felt in this high-latitude region. These iceberg discharges possibly stemmed from the Fennoscandian ice sheet which, with the Laurentide ice sheets fluctuated coherently on shorter timescales than the Milankovitch orbital cycles.
